Haitian Patties (Plant Based)
I absolutely love Haitian patties.
Thing is, since I’m pescatarian and my boys are the meat eaters, typically, I can’t enjoy them because I make my Haitian patties with beef. Sure, I can use fish instead, but my children aren’t fans of the fish patties.
However now, with the advent of plant-based meats, I’m now able to enjoy Haitian patties with my children. Best thing is – they have no idea the meat inside the patties are plant-based. It literally tastes the same. Well, at least the way I season mine!
What is a Haitian Patty?
A Haitian patty is essentially a puff pastry with some kind of meat in the middle. Any kind of meat can be used: chicken, beef, salt fish or even kipper. Haitian patties are usually served as appetizers.
These patties are often paired with Akason, a sweet and creamy traditional Haitian drink made with sweet evaporated milk, corn flour, vanilla and cinnamon. Akason is kind of like a Haitian milkshake.
A Haitian patty with a cold glass of Akason – you’re literally in culinary heaven.
